Consul Underwriting Services Ltd (Consul) is a subsidiary company of Tobell Insurance Services and operates as an Appointed Representative.

The focus of Consul is exclusively the legal expense insurance market with the Company being established to produce “wholesale” capacity for larger legal disputes where there is a benefit in providing After the Event (“ATE”) insurance, whether through the avenue of co-insurance or that of reinsurance.
 
Formed in 2008, Consul entered the sector at a time when the ATE insurance market was developing from a successful platform through schemes in providing ATE insurance protecting RTA and personal injury claimants to one that was then looking to deliver solutions for larger cases. Case complexity dictated more extensive coverage, profound legal and insurance knowledge, individual risk underwriting and greater capacity – an opportunity had arisen to which Consul responded.

With years of accumulative experience in the ATE insurance sector and reinsurance market, the Consul specialists, with intricate knowledge of their subject and a clear advantage when it comes to development of new products, approaches and capacity from top class security, are providing crucial support to the limited number of established ATE underwriters.

Consul has also been able to assist clients across the world by stimulating additional forms of protection and in some cases even acting as the intermediary in accessing litigation funding where circumstances require that additional support.
